Some tennis legends took to the court over the past weekend to play pickleball! Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, Andy Roddick and Michael Chang played both singles and double at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
It was part of ESPN’s inaugural Pickleball Slam programming and there was a $1 million purse for the winners which isn’t pocket change.
It was a great publicity event for pickleball in general and made it into many of America’s top newspapers such as USA today. John McEnroe was his usual tempestuous self, throwing his padel several times and acting the bad boy.
In the end it was Agassi and Roddick who beat McEnroe and Chang in a closely contested 3 game match and won the $1 million prize.
It was interesting that McEnroe and Roddick both had problems with the non-volley area and made several faults each by entering it and volleying.
All in all it was a great advert for pickleball in general and will surely create more interest in the UK.
